The Judiciary Human Resource Management Department, on Tuesday February 22, 2022, conducted are fresher training for court clerks/interpreters at the Judicial Training Institute (JTI) in Nakawa. The one-day training was attended by 53 court clerks from different court stations.
The Registrar Research and Training, HW Mary Kaitesi who opened the training emphasized the need of professionalism. "You are Judiciary's contact people and so it is very important to equip you with skills that improve your daily work," she said.
HW Kaitesi noted that in the new Judiciary, the participants ought to improve on their performance and avoid vices such as corruption, poor time management and abscondment from work which undermines the principle of integrity. "We have zero tolerance for non-performance and indiscipline," the Registrar said.
To understand their mandate better, they were taken through the Mandate, structure and composition of the Judiciary by the Commissioner Human Resource, Ms Apophia N. Tumwine. She urged the participants to work hard and observe the Judiciary Ethical Code of Conduct.
The Commissioner called for patience while addressing concerns of low salaries, saying there are many positive changes underway in the new Judiciary. She applauded the clerks who were clad in their uniform and encouraged the rest to emulate them to promote transparency and easy identification.
Other concerns included delays in payments, non-payment of disturbance allowances, issues todo with study leave and poor streamlining of duties.
The participants were trained on Court processes and procedures, management of court records, ethics and decorum of court clerks/interpreters. Other topics covered were terms and conditions of service, customer care and communication in the Service.
While closing the workshop, HW Samuel Emokor, the Registrar High Court enlightened the cadre on the relationship between Judicial Officers and the non-Judicial officers. He commended the Human Resource department and JTI for organizing the training, and urged the participants to fully utilize all the knowledge acquired to improve performance.
HW Flavia Nassuna Matovu, the Inspector of Courts, HW Juliet Harty Hatanga, the Deputy Registrar Commercial Division and Ms. Roshen Nabateregga, Senior Human Resource Officer Ministry of Public Service were the lead facilitators at the workshop.
Notably present was the Principal Human Resource Officer Ms. Suzan Harriet Akello and Senior Records Officer, Mr. Jacob Gwom who moderated the training.
